Due to natural iodine content of Bladderwrack it may decrease effectiveness of the drug
Theoretical concern, no cases reported.
Contraindicated unless under close supervision
Thyroid replacement therapiese.g. thyroxine
Bladderwrack (Fucus vesiculosus)
May add to effect of drug.
Theoretical concern linked to a case report - “kelp” caused hyperthyroidism in a person not taking thyroxin.
Check (low level of risk).
Radioactive Iodine
Bugleweed (Lycopus virginicus/Lycopus europaeus)
May interfere with administration of diagnostic procedures using radioactive isotopes
Case reported.
Contraindicated
Thyroid hormones
Bugleweed (Lycopus virginicus/Lycopus europaeus)
Should not be given concurrently with preparations containing thyroid hormone.
